"Kinds are the very life of art“.

This motto, coined by Henry James and taken up by the Viennese author Heimito von Doderer, who expresses it again and again in his literary work, is the central idea of this musical project. Doderer consciously referred to music in the titles of his short stories, attempting to find or invent new forms of literature; this idea very much resembles my own idea of music as being always up to date but ever-changing sound material in likewise modern but changing structures. David’s multi-faceted yet sober slide guitar vernacular, Achim’s bass in its gamut of complex grooves to detailed audio articulations, and the various layers of “extended” piano are the hotbed for improvisation and association sequences, pieces, rhythmic and amorphous sound elements and electronic ideas. The musicians join their individual backgrounds, their lingo, in a common pool. Traditional “kinds” of playing alternate with unconventional practices. New forms are created with old means.
